The AI Act (EU Regulation 2024/1689) is the world's first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence. Adopted in 2024, it applies progressively between 2025 and 2027.

Four categories: unacceptable risk (banned), high-risk (heavy obligations), limited risk (transparency), minimal risk.

Providers, deployers, importers, and distributors of AI systems operating in the European Union.

Application timeline

February 2025: prohibitions and AI literacy. August 2026: main obligations. August 2027: high-risk systems embedded in regulated products.
